Rules and Policies
Review all beach bonfire rules, permits, and policies for Destin, Miramar Beach, 30A, Santa Rosa Beach and Walton County to ensure a safe and compliant experience.
Bonfire Weather Policy
We want every guest to have the best possible beach bonfire experience. Because our events take place outdoors, weather conditions are beyond our control.
- Refunds are not issued due to weather conditions
- If the forecast is unfavorable, you may reschedule your bonfire at least 24 hours in advance, subject to availability
- A $170 new permit fee (plus any applicable additional permitting fees) will apply when rescheduling
- If you choose to cancel, a refund (minus the deposit) is available when canceled at least 48 hours before your scheduled bonfire
Day-of Adjustments
- We’re happy to adjust your start time (earlier or later) to avoid weather, if requested before noon on the day of your event
- Our team is prepared to wait out temporary weather delays and continue your experience when possible
- You’re welcome to meet our team at the beach access and stay connected via our text communication system
- If there are any delays, we will proactively update you
We are committed to being as flexible as possible and will always work with you to find the best solution.
Bonfire Turtle Nest Policy
During sea turtle nesting season (May – October), protected nests may occasionally impact bonfire locations.
- If a turtle nest affects your reserved location, we will relocate your bonfire to the nearest available beach access
- A $170 temporary permit fee (plus any applicable additional fees) may apply
- In some cases, the county may allow us to transfer the permit without additional fees—if so, we will not charge you
- If you do not select a new location, we will assign the best available option and update your reservation
Please note: Relocations due to turtle nests do not qualify for refunds
Bonfire Cancellation Policies
If you need to cancel your beach bonfire reservation, please contact us as soon as possible, preferably at least 2 business days prior to your scheduled event by calling us at 850-585-5585 or emailing sandandflames@gmail.com. Standard bonfires require a $200 deposit, while events, including groups of 30 or more, require a 50% deposit plus applicable permitting fees. All deposits are non-refundable. Standard bonfires are paid in full at the time of booking, while events require a deposit with the remaining balance due 2 weeks prior to the event.
If you choose to cancel, a refund will be issued minus the deposit, provided the cancellation is made at least 48 hours before your scheduled bonfire. Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance are not eligible for a refund, and no refunds are granted on the same day as your event. Full refunds are not issued under any circumstances. All refunds include a $50 cancellation fee, which is already included in the deposit.
We strongly recommend reaching out as early as possible if your plans change so we can best assist you and explore available options.
Private Access Bonfire Policies
Private beach bonfires are subject to all Walton County regulations. To host a bonfire at a private beach access, the homeowner must provide written and notarized permission allowing Sand & Flames Co to operate on their property. This documentation must be submitted to and approved by the South Walton Fire District (SWFD), and a copy must be maintained in order to secure the required permits.
All flames, including the fire pit and tiki torches, must be placed at least 50 feet from the dunes in accordance with county guidelines. If our team arrives on-site and the beach does not have sufficient space to meet these regulations, we will not be able to proceed with the setup at that location.
In this case, we can relocate your bonfire to the nearest available public beach access, pending permit availability. A new permit fee of $200 will apply for the relocation. If permits are not available, or if you choose not to proceed, a 50% refund will be issued.
Bonfire Event Policies
Bonfire events that require a Special Event Permit or include event equipment are subject to a non-refundable deposit equal to 50% of the total event cost, plus all applicable permitting fees.
Please note that while all standard policies apply to events, the event deposit differs from the standard bonfire deposit.
If you have any questions or need clarification, our team is always happy to assist.
